General Notes on Turnaround Times
- Turn around times are given in working days and ARE FOR GUIDANCE ONLY.
- The target time between the arrival of a specimen in the laboratory and reporting results for urgent biochemistry tests is 1 hour, for inpatient work this is <4 hours and GP/Otpatient work< 24 hours.
Tests referred to other laboratories or cross-site may take longer, and the expected turn around time for these are quoted below
For blood specimens, the colour of the text within the 'Container'column indicates the required specimen lid colour. If unsure, click the test within the column for an image
The colour and the size of the paediatric tubes vary significantly for standard adult tubes. It is therefore ESSENTIAL that you check the label on each tube
BEFORE performing the blodd draw to ensure that the correct additive is used and the tube expiry has not been exceeded. Please refer to Paediatric Endocrine and Metabolic Specimen Requirements
Please note the volumes quoted relate to individual tests, and are for total blood collected unlesss otherwise stated.
If multiple tests are ordered, an appropriate increase in sample volume may be required.
Multiple tests for the same specimen type will normally only require a single specimen.
All reqests made electronically will automatically include on the request form the type and the number of specimens required
For any tests not listed please contact the laboratory to discuss.
