The decision to administer cryoprecipitate must be made following discussion with a Consultant Haematologist HOW bleep 922 (see below for how to request cryoprecipitate). The decision should be based on a fibrinogen result taken within the previous 24 hours.
Therapeutic for Bleeding
Initial dose is 2 large packs or 10 single methylene blue treated (for patients that are born after 1st January 1990) packs of cryoprecipitate. Subsequent doses must be dependent on laboratory results and patient's clinical response.

All requests, with the exception of major haemorrhage, must go through the Consultant Haematologist on bleep 922 during routine working hours or through switchboard out-of-hours. The Transfusion laboratory must be contacted once authority for use of Cryoprecipitate has been obtained.
The following information must be given:-
Allow 20 minutes for thawing. Cryoprecipitate is collected directly from the transfusion laboratory by portering staff. All must be delivered immediately to the clinical area.
